Texas has a dangerous dog statute (the “Act”) which regulates dangerous dogs and their owners.  The statute is in Chapter 822 of the Texas Health and Safety Code.  The Act contains a definition for a dangerous dog, and it provides certain procedures for seizure and euthanization of dogs that are a danger to society.  Dogs which cause death of or serious bodily injury to a person can be seized, and the Act sets forth related hearing procedures.  A dog owner can also be criminally prosecuted under the Act in certain circumstances.  We will post in the future information about certain portions of the Act.
