A Pit Bull Fatally Attacks a 4-year-old Boy in the Conroe, Texas, AreaWednesday, January 23rd, 2013
A tragedy occurred in Montgomery County on Saturday after 4-year-old Christian Gormanous entered a neighbor’s yard by climbing a chain link fence. A pit bull, which was chained in the neighbor’s backyard, fatally attacked the boy.
The dog attack took place at about 5:15 pm on Pinehurst, which is not far to the west of Conroe, Texas. Nine-year-old Trinity Gormanous, Christian’s sister, pulled the small boy away from the dog and called out for help. Paramedics went to the scene and transported Christian to the hospital, where he later died.
One of the Gormanous’s neighbors, John Roach, spoke well of the Gormanous family and their children. An enormous amount of support was demonstrated on Facebook, where Christian’s mother was credited with adoring her children and being a wonderful mother.
Montgomery County Animal Control has taken custody of the pit bull. No charges expect to be filed against the dog’s owners as a result of the fatal dog attack, but it’s currently unknown whether the dog will be returned to them.
Children are most frequently the victim of dog bites, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that somewhere around 4.7 million people are bitten by dogs annually in the US. And of those dog bites, most fatalities are caused by pit bulls. This breed of dog is usually at the top of all lists of dangerous dogs, though many dog specialists firmly believe that dog owners are responsible when pit bulls and other breeds are dangerously aggressive.
